In lieu of an actual year end list like I used to do on the blog, I lazily present to you my top picks for best movie, TV moment and comic of 2013.
Movie: The Conjuring
Scary as fuck. There was supposed to be an episode of Cinema S where I reviewed it but a parade of technical difficulties kept me from ever getting around to it. Chances are you’ve already seen it at this point. It was a real winner at the box office but in the event that you haven’t, believe the hype. It’s really quite good. I have some ethical problems with the Warrens being the heroes of the story since they’re actually a pair of fucking frauds but whatever. Lorraine Warren is the one making guest appearances on “paranormal reality shows” not me, so what do I know?
TV: Breaking Bad - Felina
The saddest part about the Breaking Bad series finale is that TV will never be this good ever again.
Comics: Rat Queens
I did this on Cinema S a couple of weeks ago, watch the video for the details on why it’s so good (as well as why you should be reading Velvet and Letter 44: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2isNLAIilY) In a nutshell, Rat Queens is a comic based on the basement Dungeons and Dragons adventures you and your friends used to have. It’s fun. The writing is very good. The women are very strong and interesting and if there’s a comic you’ve wanted to use to make all those hideous fat-ass neckbeards shut up about “fake geek girls” this is the one.
